One of the greatest powers of God is the power of creation, so much so that one of the names of God is Creator. And one of the greatest generosities of God is his willingness to share this power with us, his children. The most wonderful manifestation of this is our ability to create life itself through procreation.

But our incredible brains have unlimited power to create. To verify this, one only needs to gaze at all the creations of humans that have occurred throughout the millennia, technologically and artistically, from the pyramids of Egypt to the spacecraft we toss toward the stars.

But perhaps the circumstances under which our creative abilities most mimic that of God are when storytellers create new worlds, even universes, for our entertainment and edification. The power of the storyteller to evoke and control the destinies of his own private cosmos of the imagination is rivaled only by God. Of course, our creations pale in comparison to those of the Divine Creator. But after all, we are only apprentices.

SUBMISSIONS

We tell stories through books and film and any other medium we get a hankering to do it in. Currently we're focusing on publication of novels and collections of short stories, primarily in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and exploring spirituality (but would be open to other genres if the story grabs us).

We have little interest in books entirely of poetry, although if you sprinkle in a few poems into an anthology of short stories, we might look the other way.

Primarily we're interested in stories told honestly with compelling characters and engaging plots, the more unique, the better. We're leaps and bounds more interested in stories that explore the human experience, as opposed to message stories that preach the author's agenda. (Nobody likes to be preached to.)

If you have a compelling story or two you'd like to see published (emphasis on compelling), we'd be happy to consider it.

Keep in mind, we're called Worldsmith Stories for a reason. We are passionate about intriguing, honestly told stories and have no patience for weak or poorly written ones. Let me emphasize again, message stories will make us gag, unless you're really, really good at diguising it. (Few people are.)

We are not a full service publishing house. To publish with us is more a hybrid experience somewhere between publishing with a publisher and self-publishing.

You will not have to pay to have your book published (unless you want us to act as your vanity publisher), but we expect you to take an active part in preparing for publication and promoting it afterward. You will not receive any advance, but you'll receive reasonable royalties with sales of your book.

We design the cover for your book, together with your feedback. We assign an ISBN number to it and register the copyright in your name. The registration fee is the one advance cost we expect you to cover, since you will own the copyright.

We use Amazon.com to publish trade paperback books and Draft2Digital to produce digital versions in mobi, epub, and pdf formats. We provide the ISBN number for your book, coded to indicate it's a publication of Worldsmith Stories.

Basically you'd be self-publishing, but using us to do all the technical dirty work to prepare the book and to have it listed in the inventory of an actual publishing company.

Prerequisites for being able to publish with us:
  • Know English grammar and spelling.

  • Proofread your writing before you submit it.

  • If you use the wrong there, their, or they're, or you spell "a lot" alot or "probably" prolly, we already don't like your book. Learn English spelling.

  • Be prepared to rewrite if we like your book but feel there are issues with it that need addressing.

  • Most important of all, be professional. We'll give leeway to people who are pleasant to work with. We won't waste our time with authors who choose belligerence over professionalism.
We're fussy with what we'll accept. We want the Worldsmith Stories brand to be associated with compelling storytelling so you know, even though not all the stories we publish may be your cup of tea, they'll at least be quality stories and maybe still grab you anyway.

TO SUBMIT

Send a query email through our CONTACT US page to Worldsmith Stories. Include a teaser of a maximum of three (average-sized) paragraphs of your story and a brief overview of your writing experience and/or career (if any). Also include the first page of your manuscript (single spaced, not double) in the body of the email so we can see if you have the slightest clue how to writeknow how to write.

No email attachments! They will be deleted unread. Y'all know why: virus trickery.

If you can't pique our interest with a teaser and the first page, we don't want to publish you. But you're welcome to try again with a different project. (One at a time please.) If you do pique our interest, we'll ask you to send us the manuscript.

Simultaneous queries with other publishers are acceptable. Simultaneous manuscript submissions are not.
